Skin biopsy is done under local anaesthesia. It is a simple procedure in which the concerned area is first sedated and then the growth, or a part of it, is removed. The sample is then sent to a laboratory where it is carefully examined to for signs of skin cancer. In case cancer is detected, its grade and type will also be determined and the treatment will be planned accordingly.
